Surround Yourself with Eagles

Do not be misled: “Bad company corrupts good character.” – 1 Corinthians 15:33
They say that the more you hang out or spend time with someone, the more like them you become. If you notice, you pick up sayings or habits. I have talked before about connections and why it is so important to choose wisely who you are connected to. If you are trying to change your life or grow from the place you have been in, check who you are close to, who speaks into your life. What we hear affects our thoughts which in turn determines our actions. As believers, our goal should be to be more like Jesus so if you are struggling or having trouble with certain habits, ask yourself who is influencing you. Start spending more time with Jesus so you can be more like Him. Let Him lead and guide you to the right relationships you should have in your life and be willing to let go of those who are affecting you negatively. The more you draw closer to Him, the easier it will be to let go of negative people and things. There is a saying that says something like – Eagles don’t hang around with chickens. If you want to soar to a higher place, surround yourself with eagles, with those who are more seasoned than you who can help you and teach you how to soar. #growth #truthtalk

Walking in Obedience

Learning to walk in obedience is not easy. When God is trying to teach you to walk by faith, He may ask you to do something that is out of your comfort zone or something that you may not “feel” like doing. Most of the time you may not even know Gods plan until it unfolds and you won’t see it unfold until you take a step of obedience. It is a pure act of your will to push past yourself and your stinkin flesh and say yes to God. Each time you take a step and choose to do what you know your Father is telling you, it gets easier the next time around and the next time. Eventually you won’t hesitate at all when He asks you to do something. I recently heard a speaker say that you can measure your faith by how quickly you obey when God asks you to do something. If you hesitate or make excuses or just don’t do it because you don’t feel like it or it’s uncomfortable, then you have small to almost no faith. If you don’t hesitate, then you have big faith. As you learn to live a life of obedience you will also learn the voice of your Father and how to recognize it. Determine yourself to live a life of obedience and watch how your life will change and your walk with the Father will grow more intimate. He has so much for us but many won’t see it until they learn this. Take His hand and allow Him to guide and lead you down the path He has set before you. When you are afraid, keep walking and do it afraid. Each step will set you free from fear or anything else that has hindered you. #obedience #truthtalk

clay

And yet, O LORD, you are our Father. We are the clay, and you are the potter. We all are formed by your hand. – Is. 64:8 NLT

We all have our own journey, our own process. Most of us come to the Father broken and needing to be made whole again. No matter what your condition, He is the master at taking something broken and creating a masterpiece. The process is not easy and sometimes it is downright hard, but it is all worth it to come out as pure gold, a vessel fit for the Master’s use.

One of the hardest things for us as people is to look at ourselves, but I mean REALLY look at ourselves. If you are willing to place yourself on the potter’s wheel, it takes a full surrender and with this comes looking at all the ugliness within you, whether it is…

What is On Your Mind?

What is on Your Mind?

break-free-from-the-chains-1024x682

We hear so much talk about our minds. There are countless books, articles, teachings and so much on this subject. Maybe because it is one of the most important topics that literally affects every aspect of our lives. Stop for a moment and think about that last thought that crossed your mind. If you’re a woman, that may be tough because our minds can be on 10 things at once. But if you were to really think about the thoughts that go through your mind on a daily basis, you may be surprised. Your thoughts determine how you act, what you say, how you feel and so much more.

Learning to “take every thought captive” as the Word of God teaches us is not something that comes naturally. This takes action and most of the time determination and persistence. It really boils down to a choice. What are we choosing…

You’re Not Made to Fit Someone Else’s Mold

You’re Not Made to Fit Someone Else’s Mold

Truth Talk with Dez

When our Creator made each of us, he broke the mold. We are not meant to fit into anyone else’s. Too many people waste their life trying to fit into someone else’s mold and they never learn who they really are. We are all amazingly unique. There is such a freedom in knowing who you are, but more importantly WHOSE you are. It is in God where we find our identity. It is in Him where we are set free to be the person He has designed us to be. There is no greater freedom. This frees you from the opinions of others, from comparing yourself to anyone else and from the pressure of fitting into anyone’s box. When you learn to walk in this you will stand out. Never be afraid to stand out. You never know who is watching and how your light will shine. Your every day…

Religion vs. Relationship

Religion vs Relationship

Truth Talk with Dez

Religion tells you that you have to do this and do that and be this way and that way to please God and to be right with Him. Relationship knows that you could never do enough but you also don’t have to because it was already done for you 2000 years ago – grace. Religion makes you feel like you have to fit into a certain mold, usually man made. Relationship knows that God loves you just the way you are and accepts you with all your flaws. It tells you, you are free to be who God made you, unique and amazing. Religion brings judgment. Relationship gives love. Religion tells you that you have to go to church and go through the motions. Relationship knows that being in a church day and night won’t make you a Christian any more than being in a garage will make you…
